Phylloxera Management Zones

Introduction

Australia's viticultural regions have been classified into zones (see map below):

  1. GREEN: Phylloxera Exclusion Zone (PEZ) known to be free from phylloxera
  2. RED: Phylloxera Infested Zone (PIZ) known to have phylloxera
  3. CREAM: Phylloxera Risk Zone (PRZ) phylloxera status unknown (but never detected)

South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and areas in New South Wales and Victoria have been recognised as phylloxera-free areas (see green areas on the phylloxera zones map below) or Phylloxera Exclusion Zones (PEZ). On the other hand, areas known to be infested with phylloxera (see red areas on map) are called Phylloxera Infested Zones (PIZ).
